This foundation was founded on Tyler Robinson, a teenager that was diagnosed with cancer and passed away. His favorite band was Imagine Dragons, and that band, when Tyler passed, got together with his family and created this foundation to help families financially when they are facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis. This December, CCHS is collecting donations for the Tyler Robinson Foundation. During the assembly on November 28, Tyler’s older brother, Jesse, and his mom, Shannon, both spoke about Tyler and the foundation. The purpose of this assembly was to make students at CCHS aware of the needs of other people. It was also to inform about the activities in which the school will be having to receive money for the foundation. In the assembly, 10 things were listed:
CCHS is also holding Odd Jobs, which is odd jobs around the city that the students can do to earn money for the donation. They will be meeting every day in the Commons and then going to do some type of odd job.
One other surprise that the students received was a visit from Kate Pierson, a survivor of cancer. She was diagnosed with cancer at age 12 and had to go through extreme treatment to get rid of the cancer. She spoke about the amazing benefit of the foundation because it helped her family pay for the expenses of her treatments.
When students reach a certain amount of money, the school will do something. For example, when they get $25, 000, the Student Govt. boys will shave their legs, at 65,000 lunches will be extended, and so on. Katia, a junior, says that, “It [the assembly] was motivational.” The purpose of the assembly was to motivate the students to donate their money.
Corner Canyon and many other schools work together to get donations for this foundation. Tyler Robinson made a huge impact on many people. And this is a way to give back to him. So, students, if you see a student govt. member in the hallway, empty out your pockets and donate your money!
Tyler Robinson’s favorite line of “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons is, “The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell.”
