For many winning an award can be a monumental achievement in someone’s life. While many do win awards for sports and dance competitions, many don’t think about winning a award for being a great student. Taylor Sampson, a senior at CCHS was nominated and won the National Student to Celebrate Award. According to Varsity Brands the presenter of the award, the company awards a student with “a deep and genuine love for his/her school and “consistently attends school events and displays the utmost sportsmanship and school pride.”
Taylor matched all of these things, She was the Technology Officer for Corner Canyon and held the Tech Cheer Manager position after suffering a hand injury in her freshman year on the cheer team. While being the Manager of Technology for the cheer team she took photos and videos of the cheer team. This position was described in the Draper journal as also “creating the cheer website and social media accounts.” She later did these media tasks for the basketball team here at Corner Canyon and added streaming the games to the list. After these accomplishments she ran for student council won, that day she became the Technology Officer of Corner Canyon.
On the day that she applied she was working on a video for the Corner Canyon drill team, the captain of the drill team asked her to submit this video for an award from Varsity Bands. After having a conversation with her mom she applied for the Student to Celebrate award. Taylor was nominated along with Lindsay Tatum, Nicole Sacco, Tyra Ericson Joshua Ardoin, and Sofia Murtaugh according to prnewswire.com.
With 400 applicants Taylor and these five other students headed down to Orlando where the awards ceremony was held, and with the anxiety of a normal teenager she waited eagerly for the awards to be handed out. During her acceptance speech she thanked Cheer coach Whitney Lunt saying “A huge, huge thank you to my amazing cheer coach, who helped me start on my amazing journey of photography and digital photography.”
Everyone who attends a high school has a different opinions about their time attending whether or not it is “The best four years of your life” as my dad used to say when I started high school. Or maybe you took what your dad said to the trash and say that “ High school really sucks”. The point is that Taylor Sampson cared about something and that something was Corner Canyon. She wanted to share with the people she came in contact with, and that's what she did, with her various videos and projects that showed the spirit of Corner Canyon that she came to love over her four years of attending CCHS.
If you feel like that you feel the same Compassion that Taylor did with Corner Canyon, consider applying for awards by Varsity Brands. Varsity Brands is a company that awards students and staff of high schools around the world for being caring and compassionate about their schools.
